An Initial Clinical Experience of Male Nursing Students

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to understand the male nursing students through identifying the mean and structure of their initial clinical experience.
This study was proceeded in phenomenological approach and Colaizzi¢¥s method for data analysis.
This research identified 13 themes, 6 theme clusters and 3 basic structures. The 6 theme clusters include uncomfortable of not being accustomed, shock of clinical settings, defficulties of making interpersonal relationship, challenge and seriousness, becoming the nurse and approaching nursing, self-confidence as male nursing students.
As a result, The male nursing students at the initial clinical practice feels embarrassment, burden, lonesome and is confused for the gap of theory and practice.
Though realized the importance of clinical practice as study course, they felt that they were not so well-educated because of the absence of clinical staff¢¥s interest for clinical nursing education and given condition. They felt unfamiliar in making relationship with young nurses or female patient. But when their curiosity and interest for the clinical practice were increasing. They wanted to under go this and that and became to make relationship more positively and tried to be discrete in nursing.
More realizing the patient and their family and finding role model in the midst of nurses working for them, they were very inspired.
After all, male nursing students take pride by getting over themselves, by curiosity and encouragement from the nurses, patients and patients families during clinical practice and by recognizing that male patients feel comfort and easily become friend with them.
